| Einar Jónsson was born in 1873 and studied
sculpture in Copenhagen before moving back to Iceland. His work is said to be a mixture of romantic
naturalism and realistic expressionism, often with religious influences. In
1923 he opened his own gallery in Reykjavík, where he also resided.
When he died in 1954 he left all his art and belongings to the Icelandic
state, and today, his art is on display at the Einar Jónsson museum
in Skólavörðuholt, near Hallgrímskirkja church in
Reykjavík. |
